Dark modern-fantasy in a world where music is magic, where a song can save your life or end it. Comments: Elena is fairly new to me, but what I know is that she’s a student in Australia with German heritage and a love of music (especially Eddie Veder and the Oasis brothers).  Given that knowledge, I’m kicking out a recommendation for Phonogram by UK based Gillen and McKelvie.  With the story inspired by Britpop, including a cover homage to Oasis, it seemed like the perfect fit.  McKelvie’s art is also gorgeous and has been seen often around Tumblr (the girl with the tiger hat?  That’s him.).  Not having read this yet, I’m still pretty optimistic that she will enjoy it.
