The KLF - What Time Is Love? (LP Mix)

So.  Embarrassing.

There’s this image I’ve seen on Tumblr, I think, that says, “No one remembers their first download.” which is a throwback to the days of vinyl.  Now, while I am getting long in the tooth, vinyl is still mostly before my time.  I had a few albums growing up, like a Superman storybook, and probably some Mini-Pops or some crap, but mostly I grew up in the age of the cassette tape.  However, as I really started to get into music in high school, the compact disc had just hit the scene.

I’ve never been good at remembering things.   My memory is suspect at best.  I think my first cassette may have been Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The U.S.A.  And my first CD?  Also hazy, but I think it was The KLF.  There was a guy I worked with who I had a bit of a man-crush on.  Not in a sexual way.  In the way that I wanted to be like him.  He was charming and cool.  And he was into some interesting new music.  He introduced me to The KLF.  It was weird and different and I liked it.

I remember buying the CD shortly after.  My mom had just bought a CD player for our home stereo.  I would rush home from school before she was back from work and throw on this disc and crank it up.  The beginning of the song attached is really weird, looking back on it.  But the part where the guy comes on the mic and talks to the audience and ramps up the song used to get me pumped every time.

I haven’t listened to this in years, but I’ve been in the process of ripping a bunch of my old CD’s to iTunes, so don’t be surprised if you get more stuff like this in the future. ;)
