I’ve been following the trajectory of Eugene Ahn (aka Adam WarRock) for a number of years now.  I first discovered him when he was hosting a podcast called People You Don’t Know (PYDK) where he would interview people who had interesting careers or where behind fascinating projects.  This was mostly a hobby, as in his day job, Eugene was a labour lawyer in the DC area.  Eugene ended up interviewing Chris Sims for PYDK,  a comics comedy writer at the Invincible Super Blog, and who now is one of the head writers at Comics Alliance.  The two hit it off and joined forces to start the War Rocket Ajax comics and pop culture podcast, which is still going strong, though Euge has left as co-host.

Why did he leave?  To pursue his music career.  Adopting the moniker Adam Warrock, Eugene quit his day job as a lawyer and threw himself headlong at his dream of becoming a rapper.  Amongst a certain segment of the “geek” population, Adam Warrock has gained quite a following, and if you take the time to watch the video above, it’s evident that Eugene is a talented guy.  You may have seen me post some of his stuff before, including a slick Scott Pilgrim video mashup featuring an Adam Warrock track.  And here’s the thing:

He gives most of his music away for free.

Listen to his track “Starving Artist” and you’ll understand why.  He loves what he does.  But man’s gotta eat.  So every once in a while he does a donation drive, and this is one of those times.

I find a lot of inspiration in Eugene’s story.  He’s following his bliss.  You have to admire people like that.  And if you dig his stuff, I think it’s worth throwing him a little support.

The world could use more artists like him.
