Comments:
I have been reading superhero comics on and off pretty much since I’ve been able to read. And in all that time, there is perhaps no character that was less appealing or absurd to me than Power Girl. I don’t know why, exactly. She had a convuluted backstory. A terrible costume. I’ve never been a fan of Superman (to which family tree Power Girl belongs). I just didn’t care.
Then a couple of years ago I heard about this new run of Power Girl. Good things. Great things. Week after week. I had a peek and the art caught my eye. A clean, fun, cartoony style. I found myself at my first comic convention around the time that issue #4 was out, so I picked it up and grabbed #1-3 as well.
I fell in love.
This comic was so fun and fresh. It was funny and sexy in a non-salacious way. It was the polar opposite of a lot of the gritty, brooding books that dominated the shelves, and it made me instantly care about this character. I was immediately hooked. The writing team of Palmiotti and Gray and artist extraordinaire, Amanda Conner, stayed on the title for 12 issues. This book collects the first six. I’ve recommended this for fistaphobia because he seems to like fun and art and women, of which this book has plenty. A real joy to read.
